Birding
From Red-whiskered Bulbul (红耳鹎), Chinese Bulbul (白头鹎), Oriental Magpie Robin (鹊鸲) and Common Blackbird (乌鸫) in Guangdong, China, to northen cardinal, blue jay, robin, Carolina Wren, European starling in Boston, recognizing local birds become a hallmark of “I’ve lived here”. This journey starts when I first pointed my telephoto camera towards a fuzzy black stuff on the tree. Since then, I often spent hours staring at trees and looking for birds. I feel so connected to nature when I slowly becoming familiar with local species and be able to identify them with their song and call. Photos below were taken by my boyfriend Tianhao (my best bird guide and birding companion), I only use telescope when birding.
Snowboarding
One of my friend led me into this amazing world of snowsports in the Thanksgiving of 2024, and I fell in love with snowboarding immediately. It teaches me to face fear directly and embrace speed. Plus, it’s always amazing to ski / snowboard with friends.
Watercolor
I started learning watercolor painting in the summer of 2025. I love feeling my brush touches the paper and seeing colors merge with one another. I’ve gained so much inner peace since I painted. I’ve sticked some of my paintings to the wall of my bedroom, that lightens up me a lot too!
Hiking
For me, hiking is the most intimate way to interact with a mountain. Driving to the scenic spot only allows me to enjoy the view, hiking the trail connects my soul with the view. Below are some photos I took during a 20km hike at Mt. Rainier. That’s defintely one of my favourite hiking experience.
